Interview with Abby Theuring a.k.a. The Badass Breastfeeder

Each month we'd like to feature someone in the baby industry that we admire. Someone that is doing great things and making a splash! We wanted to kick it off with a bang, so we asked The Badass Breastfeeder a few questions. We hope you enjoy her! <3

Abby Theuring The Badass Breastfeeder

Abby Theuring is an attachment parenting advocate, breastfeeding champion and the amazing woman behind The Badass Breastfeeder! After much moving around, she finally landed in Chicago. Abby and her family love it there, but they have their eyes on a more rural setting to raise their boys. Speaking of her boys, she has two. Jack is three and a half and Exley is eight months. She is currently breastfeeding both of them! As challenging as it is, she is trying to stay strong to allow them to self-wean.

The Badass Breastfeeder

Abby knew she wanted to breastfeed, but the amount of hospital booby traps and hard work it took was a huge surprise. When she was lucky enough to preserve her breastfeeding relationship with Jack she felt this huge swell of empowerment and wanted to share it with others.

Whenever any mother says that she has breastfed in public for the first time or has faced her fears of doing so, she is so proud and thankful for mothers who are able to breastfeed in public and make progress toward its normalization. So many women have been able to connect and share in their anxiety of nursing in public, this alone is liberating and empowering women all over the world.

The Badass Breastfeeder

Abby said we live in a hierarchical society, one that does not value women. Women are often nervous to breastfeed or breastfeed in public. She thinks anxiety stems from this society that does not want us to recognize how powerful our minds and bodies are. She thinks breastfeeding in public is an important part of normalizing breastfeeding and the way women are under valued is a huge hurdle. It's a women's issue, a feminist issue at its core. We've been fighting this for a long time and we can't stop now!

For 2015 Abby would like to do more calls for action related to nursing in public, motivate women to connect in their local areas and help women feel more comfortable to breastfeed outside of their home.

The Badass Breastfeeder

Her favorite breastfeeding non-profit is Human Milk for Human Babies. Abby would love to see more milk sharing. There is so much milk flowing from women, she would love to see it being shared with women who are struggling to breastfeed their babies; less reliance on formula companies when a woman needs help.

We asked her what was one product in the baby industry she couldn't live without. She said her Lilllebaby COMPLETE baby carrier. I seriously cannot get through my day without it!

Also, this is baby Exley! Is he not the cutest baby you've ever seen! Seriously! That smile!
